New Look 6808: Stash busting top

This week I've been working on a quick and satisfying project, a top using New Look 6808.

This top was quick and easy to make, the most time consuming bit was the collar and bow which were a little fiddly, but I think it looks well. This project was very satisfying, especially as it meets several of my new years sewing resolutions. Its an everyday top (well, for nicer weather than we are having at the moment) I did everything as the instructions said, didn't rush and didn't cut corners. Most importantly everything came out of my stash; pattern, fabrics, zipper and thread!

Pattern:    New Look 6808
Fabric:      African waxed fabric (left over from this dress) and white cotton (left over from my Sew For Victory Dress)
Notions:   14" zipper from stash, 2" less than that recommended by the pattern

Does it look like the picture on the envelop? Yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow? In the most part yes.
Pattern alterations? I used a 2" shorter zipper, and I took about the same amount off the bottom as it was very long.
Would I make it again? Yes, I think so, I think it will be a useful piece, and there is plenty of choice of styles with the sleeve and collar variations.

What did I learn from this project? As it's a fairly easy pattern I didn't learn any new techniques, but I did try and finish everything off well and took greater care with my hand finishing of the collar and hem.
Did it meet my sewing resolutions? A resounding yes, yes, and yes again.

  1. I love the collar. Very pretty. I hope the weather warms up for you soon - it's snowing as I look out the window here.
