From humble beginnings ...

... come great things ...

Yes after four years, four months and fourteen days ... moving house twice ... and getting a job, I have finally finished my sock yarn blanket.

Here are just some of the 1105 squares that make up my blanket ... yes, one thousand, one hundred and five! At an average of 25 minutes per square that is 27625 minutes of knitting or nearly 20 days of solid knitting.  Or looking at in another way in 1594 days I've made 1105 square, averaging out at just over two thirds of a square a day.

So, was it all worth it? Well, there were moments (many of them) when I wanted to give up ... but I persevered and I'm glad that I did. The finished item is pretty damned fantastic, or in the words of the ever effusive boyfriend 'it is very colourful'

It is also extremely warm - undeterred by the sunny weather I insisted on sleeping under my blanket the night I finished it - and it was roastie toastie! I think maybe this blanket might have to be purely ornamental for the next few months, but I know it will come into its own come the winter time.

So have I inspired you to knit your own blanket? If so, I've got plenty of left over scraps of sock yarn in a variety of different colours - let me know if you are interested ;-)
